About the Project

The “Bothlabela” project is situated on the corners of Lenin Drive and Thoko Mngoma Street at the Far East Bank in Alexandra Township, surrounded by council flats and RDP houses. The project was developed by the Alexandra Renewal Project (ARP ) and handed over to JOSHCO for management in July 2008.

The project has 520 communal rental rooms and a crèche. The crèche consist of three classrooms, an administration office, kitchen, bathroom facilities for adults and children, entertainment and playground areas. Security is evident in the project. Each 10-room communal block can be securely gated off and in addition to electric fencing around the complex there are security guards to assist with access control.

A very affordable rental of R600 per month is charged. Two housing supervisors are based on site to ensure the day-to-day management of the property, e.g. Security, cleaning, gardening, logging maintenance, general complaints and assisting with rent collection.

Botlhabela is an eco-friendly project with solar water geysers installed on top of each block, providing hot water to the communal bathrooms. Water catchment tanks have been installed at each of the clusters to collect rain water from the roofs. This is used to irrigate the community vegetable and indigenous gardens.
