Raschers Building
The Raschers Building, recently
purchased by JOSHCO and
located at 70 Loveday Street in the
Johannesburg Inner City, will yield in
excess of 100 affordable rental units. The
property is a vacant eight storey former
commercial building that has been
partially converted for use as affordable
communal rental housing much along
the lines of the BG Alexander project.
Communal rental housing is a
form of accommodation where the
costs of development are minimized,
not by reducing the quality of the
building upgrade, but by providing
rental rooms with shared bathrooms,
laundry’s and kitchens.
The Raschers Building will be ready
for use as decant accommodation for
Inner City “bad” buildings in the very
