The Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joshco) board and executive team are intensifying oversight efforts through regular visits to various rental accommodation projects across the City.
These proactive inspections are part of the organisation’s commitment to strengthening accountability, improving tenant care, and building a caring City that prioritises affordable and well-managed housing.
Joshco manages a diverse portfolio of over 9 000 units through a comprehensive approach that includes developing social and rental housing, refurbishing city-owned properties, and managing former hostels.
“The board will continue conducting oversight visits for as long as we are in office,” said Joshco board chairperson Theodore Dlamini. “It is essential that we remain vigilant and proactive in addressing any issues that may arise within our properties. Our goal is to ensure that all projects meet the standards expected by our residents and stakeholders.”
The oversight drive follows a recent site visit by the MMC for Human Settlements, Councillor Mlungisi Mabaso, which identified key areas needing attention. In response, the board reaffirmed its commitment to transparent governance and collaborative action with all relevant stakeholders.
Acting Joshco CEO Nokwazi Mtshali reinforced the message, stating: “We have a duty to protect public assets and ensure that every occupant of a Joshco rental unit has a valid lease agreement. This visit ties in with our city-wide campaign to update expired leases for both residential and commercial tenants.”
Mtshali added that this forms part of broader efforts to improve property management, tenant accountability, and efficient service delivery in line with Joshco’s mission.
Joshco remains dedicated to delivering quality, affordable rental accommodation and continues to take decisive steps to enhance the living experience of all its residents—making Johannesburg a more caring and inclusive City.
